A l'origine, cette épreuve portait le titre de Prix de la municipalité, c'était une toutes catégories qui servait de référence. De grands champions cyclistes du Sud-Ouest figurent à son palmarès comme Félix BERMUDEZ (1951 et 52), le Creusois Armand SALVINI (1954), le Marocain Mohamed EL GOURCH (1960), Guy EPAUD (1961), Michel GONZALES (1962), Albert FONTAGNERES (1964), Lucien SAUTIER (1969 et 1976). A la fin des années 1970 cette épreuve est devenue une nocturne de renom.
